BELIZE AGGRESSOR III DIVE YACHT - LIVE ABOARD DIVING PACKAGE

8 Days / 7 Nights

This package will take you aboard the Aggressor III dive yacht for a week of hassle-free diving at Turneffe Islands Atoll and Lighthouse Reef Atoll. Some of the best diving in Belize can be found on these atolls. Turneffe is the largest of Belize's atolls. The extensive mangrove islands in its central lagoon act as important fish nurseries resulting in abundant marine life on this atoll. The most well known dive site is The Elbow, which is a deep channel through the reef. A constant supply of nutrients brought through by currents (it’s primarily a drift dive) attract very large schools of snappers and jacks in mid-water above the reefs. After a few days of diving this atoll you'll head to Lighthouse Reef, the most remote of Belize's atolls. The Blue Hole lies in its central lagoon. First explored by Jacques Cousteau, it's an almost perfect circular sinkhole that drops to over 400 feet. At around 140 feet the walls curve inwards lined by massive stalactities. Half Moon Caye sits on the southern end of the atoll and was designated a UN World Heritage Site in 1982. The wall infront of this island is also specacular. During this week of diving you have have unlimited dives. Most divers do about 5 dives a day including night dives, so these trips are for the true underwater enthusiast. The motto aboard these dive boats is simple, “Eat, Sleep and Dive”. The Aggressor III is a 110 foot yacht built from the ground up for diving, but also offers comfort with a touch of luxury. The private rooms come with a private bathroom, air conditioning and a TV/VCR. There is also a nice salon with an entertainment center and a sun deck with hot tub, chaise lounges, bar and grill. The food is varied and plentiful and drinks, including beer and wine are included. Nitrox is available on board. Underwater photographes will also appreciate the on board photo center with E-6 processing lab. Overall, this one week package is Belize diving at its best.

TOURS

Diving Turneffe Islands Atoll, including The Elbow

There are hundreds of dive sites around this atoll. Some of the popular dive spots include Calabash Cut, West Side Story and Oasis. Your typical dive is a drift dive at around 80 feet along a wall, and the walls here are huge. The marine life is quite rich where you might see sea turtles, moray eels, rays and the usual variety of reef fish. The most popular site here is the Elbow, located on the southern tip of the atoll and is basically a very large channel. The strong currents bring a constant supply of nutrients which moves up the food chain attracting large fish. Although the coral formations are nice, the main attraction and what characterizes this dive is the usual sighting of large schools of fish such as jacks, blue tangs, permits or snappers.

Diving Lighthouse Reef Atoll, including the Blue Hole

This atolls has many dive sites as well, and its remoteness (being the outermost of Belize’s 3 atolls) usually makes the coral and marine life here vibrant. The most popular site here is undoubtedly the Blue Hole, a 400 foot collapsed cave with massive stalactites and sharks! Be warned, this dive is about the cave, there is no rich marine life or corals here. However, other sites like Long Caye and Halfmoon Caye Walls have breathaking coral formations, especially Halfmoon Caye where the coral just seems to grow o top of one another. Other nice dive sites include the Aquarium, whose name says it all, and Cathedral. Also, the visibility on this atoll is usually well over 100 feet. You will also visit Halfmoon Caye where you can relax in its crescent shaped beach and check out the endangered Booby birds.
