"Macaws are the largest birds in the parrot family. Their colorful plumage, which makes them so beautiful, sadly also makes them targets for the exotic bird pet trade. However, their numbers are being preserved through protected jungle areas like those found in Belize. Along with their bright colors, macaws also show a large amount of intelligence in their behaviour and require constant intellectual stimulation to satisfy their innate curiosity. Of the different species, the Scarlet Macaw, with it's bright red body, is best known. However, this lesser known Blue and Gold Macaw is just as appealing to the eye. I like this picture because this cute macaw looks like he's smiling." Alex Gamero
