This resort is located in the heart of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forests Reserve, where pine forests blanket the Maya Mountains lined by river valleys and high mountain peaks. This resort is located on the banks of the Privason River surrounded by lush gardens. It is actually owned by the famed Hollywood director Francis Ford Copolla, which you might remember from the movie Apocolypse Now. He also owns another resort on the beach in Placencia, Turtle Inn. Thatched roof cabanas and villas dot the property. They have an indoor/outdoor design. For example the 2 bedroom villas have a spacious living room with kitchennette that opens up to a large wooden deck overlooking the river. You can lounge on the couch or relax on a hammock and enjoy all the sounds and sites of the jungle from your living room! Most of the individual riverfrotn cabanas also feature indoor/outdoor themes with large wooden decks. All the cabanas and villas are beautifully decorated with a lot of artwork, bright colored tapestries and rich wood interiors. The attention to detail in the accomodations is exquisite, creating a comfortable and relaxing atmoshpere wrapped in tropical luxury. They also have some honeymoon cabanas where they put particular attention to creating a nice romantic design, including plunge pools. Francis Ford Copolla even has his own villa, where you can stay when he's not on the property. Along the river there is a gazeebo which would make a great setting for a wedding. There is also a hot tub surrounded by gardens overlooking the river. The main house features a lounge area with a big fire place, the bar and restaurant which serve great food and drinks. They have their own organic garden so a lot of the food is fresh. Other amenities include a Spa with a thai massage therapist and a horse stable. I recommend this lodge to anyone who wants a tropical luxurious jungle lodge. Families will enjoy the 2 bedroom villas and couples will enjoy the honeymoon cabanas.
