(Alex Gamero is the owner of DiscoveringBelize.com and has lost count of how many hotels and resorts in Belize he's visited.) This resort is located on the southern tip of Glover's Reef Atoll. It's located on a private island, Southwest Caye, owned by the Usher family. Eddie Usher is the manager and you'll meet him at the resort. The lagoon has many patch reefs and the walls along the atoll reef are spectacular. This atoll is known for it's healthy coral and marine life. In fact it's a UN World Heritage Site and it's protected marine status helps insure the preservation of its marine ecology. Although they offer fishing, this is primarily a dive resort. There are dozens of dive sites just 10 minutes by boat from the island. In addition, from March to June you can dive with whale sharks at nearby Gladden Split. The snorkeling around the shallow patch reefs is also very good. The snorkeling package also includes kayaking. The island itself has white sand beaches, coconut trees and clear water with a few patches of sea grass. Mosquitos can be a problem, especially if the wind is down, so bring repellant. The stand-alone wooden cabanas are fairly rustic but comfortable and overlook the beach. They also have a proch complete with hammock and recently added air conditioning to the rooms. They also have 2 bedroom reef house complete with living room, bar and a sprawling deck overlooking the sea. The restaurant serves descent food. The bar has a lounge area and wrap around deck. It's perched right above the water at the end of a dock, a great place to catch a sunrise or sunset. Overall it's a nice resort to base your explorations of this unique atoll. I recommend this resort for anyone who has a keen interest in diving or snorkeling and is more than happy to do it all day, every day.
