This resort is located on the outskirts of Benque Viejo del Carmen town, which is just west of San Ignacio town, close to the Guatemala border. You'll ferry across the Mopan River to get to the resort. They have a dozen cabanas lined along the river and some suites just behind them. The cabana interior is lined with hardwood floors and walls, all crowned by a towering tatched roof ceiling. The balcony has a sitting area that overlooks the river. The cabanas are cozy and warm but I would not go as far as calling them luxurious. In the main house you'll find a lounge area, bar and dining room. Meals are served buffet style and the cuisine is excellent. Snacks and drinks are served in the afternoon before serving up a 3 course dinner. It's a great place to socialize with other guests and a couple times a week they bring in a local marimba band to entertain. They specialize in all-inclusive packages that cover your airport transfers, all meals, drinks and tours as well. They have their own guides, who are expert naturalists, that will take you to explore the many sites and attractions of the area. Other facilities include a pool, birdwatching tower and small chapel for weddings. There are 2 things in my opinion that make this resort special. First is it's exceptional level of service to guests. Kim and Ron Chrystler the owners/managers and your hosts do a great job at making everyone feel welcome and go the extra mile to address your personal wishes. The staff is very friendly as well. The second reason is the beautiful location. The lodge is nestled on 10 acres of lush jungle dotted with coconut, avocado, mango, citrus and cedar trees all along the tranquil Mopan River. I recommend this resort for anyone looking to explore the many attractions of the Cayo district based at a beautiful jungle lodge with great service.
