(Alex Gamero is the owner of DiscoveringBelize.com and has lost count of how many hotels and resorts in Belize he's visited.) This resort is located on Glover's Reef Atoll, on a private island, Long Caye. The owners/mangaers, Jim & Kendra Schofield, create such a welcoming and homey atmosphere it feels more like a guesthouse than a resort. The thatched roof cabanas are spread along the beach are rustic but cozy, with a study desk and private balcony. They have solar powered light, as well as lanterns, for the night. There are a couple of communal showers with rainwater heated by the son. Toilets are composting. Sandy trails lined by conchshells wind around the grounds with nicely manicured gardens. There is a nice hammock palapa at the end of the dock for relaxing and catching a sunset. The main house is a big thathced roof palapa for dining and socializing. the food is actually quite good considering the remotness of the resort. Jim and Kendra sit down with guests for meals served family-style. The hospitality that Jim and Kendra bring to the table make this little resort special. If you've come to Glover's Reef you probably want to dive or snorkel. You can snorkel right off the beach or on guided boat trips to dozens of surrounded reef patches. The diving is spectacular with dozens of sites only 10 minutes by boat from the island. Their dive center is excellent with good equipment and guides. I recommend this resort to anyone with a keen interest in diving and snorkeling and who appreciates a guesthouse atmosphere.
