ORANGE WALK & SAN PEDRO, AMBERGRIS CAYE - JUNGLE, WILDLIFE & BEACH PACKAGE

8 Days / 7 Nights

This package will let you experience the natural beauty and wildlife in the jungles of Orange Walk as well as visit the Mayan ruins of Lamanai, the second largest ruins in Belize. After a few days exploring the jungle you'll head to Ambergris Caye to relax on the beach and do some snorkeling on the Barrier Reef. When most people think of Orange Walk, they think of its most famous attraction, the Mayan ruins of Lamanai. Theses ruins are impressive, perched right beside the New River Lagoon, however this district also features thousands of square miles of untamed jungles. Around this large lagoon you'll find a series of rivers, streams, wetlands and broadleaf forests teeming with wildlife. Further west is the Rio Branvo Conservation Area, a sprawling nature reserve with a dense population of jaguars. Birds are everywhere, with one of the highest diversity of species in the country. Howler monkeys lounge on the tree tops while crocodiles creep in the marshes. This is the ideal destination for the discriminating nature lover. Unlike other jungle destinations where tours require a trip by car to get to a site, here nature starts at the doorsteps of your room. After a few days exploring the jungle, you'll head to Ambergris Caye. This island, off the northern coast of the country, centers around the vibrant town of San Pedro, lined with cobbled stone and sandy streets. The Barrier Reef is only a quarter mile from the shoreline offering great diving. Included in this trip is a snorkeling tour of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley. This is Belize's most famous snorkeling site. Other activities include watersports and fishing, but most of all San Pedro is just a great place to relax. There are countless coconut trees, a few nice beaches, friendly people and lots of sun. There are many bars and restaurants to choose from as well to fill your evenings.

This resort is situated on the banks of the New River Lagoon almost on the footsteps of the Maya ruins of Lamanai which are literally at a walking distance. The lodge blends well into the surrounding jungle with its lush gardens and thatched roof cabanas. The views over the lagoon can be memorable during a sunrise or sunset, as the flat water almost mirrors the sky. One of the key attractions of this jungle lodge is that it is surrounded by a variety of habitats and wildlife. As a result your soft-adventure activities are all just minutes from the lodge. Their well trained guides and attention to service will make your stay here an experience.

Ramon's Village Resort in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

This hotel is located in the heart of town as well, with everything just a short walk away. This was one of the first big resorts on the island and has maintained its appeal throughout the years. Its unique style stands out with thatched roof cabanas and lots of foliage. They have a nice sandy beach lined with beach chairs in front and a pool shaded with coconut trees. The Parot Bar serves a mean selection of drinks too. Overall, it adds an exotic atmosphere to staying on the island.

TOURS

Tour of the Mayan Ruins Of Lamanai

This mystical Maya ruin, located in northern Belize, had one of the longest histories known in the Maya world, being continuously occupied from 1500 BC to 1675 AD. It offers one of Belize’s largest ceremonial centers, perched right along the New River Lagoon. It displays all the major phases of Maya architecture from Preclassic to the Postclassic Periods. Howler monkeys and many species of tropical birds live in the surrounding jungle. Nearby lay the remains of an old sugar mill as well. What makes this site unique is that it was still inhabited when the first Spanish conquistadors arrived. How Lamanai survived the cataclysm that devastated the other Mayan cities is unknown.

Standard Day Activities: Jungle Dawn, Sunrise Canoe Expedition, Mayan Medicine Trail & Nature Walk

There are your choice of 4 activities during the day. The Jungle Dawn Hike allows you to see the active wildlife of the morning, especially birds; other species may also be seen as your nature explains the intricacies of the surrounding habitats. The Sunrise Canoe Expedition allows you to see the morning wildlife but along the lagoon, where you might spot manatees, otters and crocodiles. Later in the day you can embark on the Maya Medicinal Trail. As the only source of medical aid, indigenous people have long studied the biological effects of different plants and herbs which are still used to this day in small villages. The Nature Walk will through different habitats to see nature at work, from butterflies and orchids to wildlife.

Standard Evening Activities: Sunset Cocktail Cruise, Spotlight Nature Safari & Night Walks

There are a choice of 3 activities during the evening. If you’ve had an active day, a good way to relax is on the Sunset Cocktail Cruise. You will head into the middle of the New River Lagoon on a 30 foot pontoon boat, where you can enjoy snacks and refreshments as you see the sun disappear behind the treetops. Or, after dinner, you can head on a Spotlight Nature Safari, where you jump into a boat with a powerful spotlight and go into the night in search of wildlife along the lagoon. You might see crocodiles, iguanas, roosting river birds or maybe the elusive jaguar. Another option is the Night Walk, where you will hike into the jungle to observe the active wildlife at night. Sounds come from everywhere, and you might see howler monkeys, birds, bats and other critters like frogs and tarantulas.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley Snorkeling Tour

This diving and snorkeling site is located just a 10 minutes from the island. It was named as one of the best animal dives in the Caribbean. Hol Chan is centered around a channel that cuts the Barrier Reef, surrounded by a variety of coral and marine life. Shark Ray Alley, as the name says, is where you will find a lot of nurse sharks and also plenty of southern sting rays. They are quite harmless, but make for an exciting dive. Many tour guides offer this tour on the island because of its popularity, but we work with hands-down the best guide on the island, who will make your experience memorable. The tour lasts about 2-3 hours.
