This package will take you into the jungle and on the beach, staying in 2 of the most exotic and luxurious resorts in Belize, Blancaneaux Lodge in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve and Turtle Inn in Placencia. The Cayo district is Belize’s most popular inland destination. Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve covers 300 square miles of pine forests on the slopes of the Maya Mountain Range. Another tour included in this package will take you to explore Caracol, which is the largest Mayan ruin in Belize and surrounded by lush broadleaf forests. These first few days in the jungle combine great adventures as well as the comfots of a luxury jungle lodge. You will then head to Placencia, located on the southern coast of Belize. This peninsula is sandwiched between a lagoon and the sea, but of particular appeal is its 16 miles of sandy beaches. At the very tip of of the peninsula is Placencia Village, a laid-back and quiet place to relax. It has a long side walk that cuts through the village where travelers and locals make their way around. Quaint bars and restaurants are great for filling your afternoons. Or head towards the lagoon to see the sunset behind the Maya Mountains. Overall, Placencia is a beautiful and relaxing place. Off the coast is the Barrier Reef which offers great snorkeling, diving and fishing. There are also several tropical islands offshore, like Silk Caye (included in this package), with sandy beaches and coconut trees. These few days on the beach combine snorkeling the Barrier Reef, enjoying the quaint village of Placencia and endulging yourself in a luxurious beach resort.

HOTELS

Blancaneaux Lodge in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve

This upscale resort was designed by renowned Mexican Architect Manolo Mestre. The thatched roof villas are spaced out to offer privacy and blend very well into the surrounding pine forest. Several of the villas overlook a small river that winds past the property. The rooms feature towering ceilings and rich mahogany, and are decorated with textiles and art from Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. There’s a nice hot-tub, Thai spa, horse stable and even its own organic garden. This resort is exemplified by its attention to detail, not only in the design but in the service.

Turtle Inn Resort in Placencia

This is Blancaneaux’s sister resort on the beach. Although different in style, it carries the same attention to detail in both its design and service. It was designed with the help of Made Wijaya, a recognized expert on tropical gardens and Southeast Asian architecture. All the individual cabanas and villas come with a view of the sea, some are just steps from the beach. They come complete with a bathroom that opens up to a walled garden, Balinese furniture and verandahs. The pool is just a few steps from the beach, there’s a local band that plays every week for entertainment and even a Thai spa. Overall, this resort encompasses exotic luxury.

TOURS

Maya Ruins of Caracol Tour

This is the largest Maya city in Belize. The city core covers 15 square miles. One of its most interesting architectural features is that Canna, the largest temple, features a whole plaza, with 3 smaller temples, on top. You can get some pretty spectacular views of the surrounding jungle from the top as well. Interestingly, one of the hieroglyphics at the site records a military conquest over the mighty city of Tikal in neighboring Guatemala. Additionally, as it is part of a nature reserve, you will see a variety of fauna, birds and maybe even a troop of howler monkeys. The tour lasts about 5-6 hours.

Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve Tour

This tour will take you to several of the main attractions withing the reserve itself. Rio Frio Cave features a massive entrance with cathedral high ceilings inside. Just past the entrance is a sandy bay with a cool stream. Rio On Pools features a series of pools and small falls. You can take a cool swim or relax on the many warm boulders. There is also a lookout that offers a nice view of all the pools. Big Rock waterfall is impressive, with pine trees towering on both sides and a cool mist spreading from below the falls. Along the way you will spot birds and learn about the reserve’s importance. The tour lasts about 3-4 hours.

Snorkeling the Barrier Reef & Beach Barbecue at Silk Caye

These 2 cayes are located right along the Barrier Reef, thus offering great snorkeling. Both islands are deserted, however, the largest of the 2 is the one most people visit. It is a picturesque island fringed by white beaches with a dozen coconut trees offering shade. Along with the snorkeling you will also enjoy a barbeque. Placencia is renowned for its coastal islands and this one should not be missed. Overall, this is a great day of sun, sand and sea. This tour lasts a full day.
