This ultimate fly fishing package will take you to 2 different destinations in Belize. The saltwater flats off of Ambergris Caye are renowned for tarpon and bonefish. And the saltwater flats off of Placencia are renowned for permit. This will give you the best opportunity to land 3 of the prized species of Belize's saltwater flats in one week. Your first stop is Ambergris Caye - the mangrove islands and channels behind this island have created famed saltwater flats renowned in particular for tarpon fishing. You can site cast for tarpon during most of the year. Fishing for bonefish is also excellent. This island, off the northern coast of the country, centers around the vibrant town of San Pedro, lined with cobbled stone and sandy streets. This town is just a great place to relax. There are countless coconut trees, a few nice beaches, friendly people and lots of sun. There are many bars and restaurants to choose from as well to fill your evenings. After a few days of fishing here you will head to Placencia. Extensive saltwater flats can be found around the mangrove and coral islands off the coast of Placencia. This area is renowned for permit, one of the most elusive fish for fly fishermen. You'll see many of them tailing on the flats on a good day. However, getting them to take your fly is a whole other story! Located on the southern coast of Belize, this peninsula is sandwiched between a lagoon and the sea. But of particular appeal is its 16 miles of beach. Placencia village is such a jewel. It has a long side walk that cuts through the village where travelers and locals make their way around. Quaint bars and restaurants are great for filling your afternoons. Or head towards the lagoon to see the sunset behind the Maya Mountains. Overall, Placencia is a beautiful and relaxing place.

TOURS
Full Day Saltwater Flats Fly Fishing in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye with Expert Guide
The shallow waters around San Pedro are the only classic tarpon flats outside of South Florida. Tarpons, also known as saltwater torpedoes, are hard-fighting fish that can take you hours to land on a fly-rod. Between May and October there is a migration through these waters where you will have a chance to find obscenely large tarpons. The channels and flats around the mangrove islands offer great bonefish all year. These little fish, are small, but fight hard. You may find the occasional permit, but it is the southern coast that is best known for catching these elusive fish. Other species can be caught as well of course. The guide has years of experience and can cater to both amateur and veteran, as well as fly or spin casting.
Full Day Saltwater Flats Fly Fishing in Placencia with Expert Guide

With a good tide you are sure to see quite a few tailing on the flats, now whether they take your fly is a whole other story. These elusive fish are a challenge to land. They are plenty of bonefish as well. You can find tarpon here as well, by the appropriately named Tarpon Caye, and plenty other species of fish as well. The guide has years of experience and can cater to amateur and veteran anglers.
