| FUN IN SAN PEDRO, AMBERGRIS CAYE |
|
March 28, 07 - "We just returned from a fabulous time on Ambergris Caye. We stayed at Ramon's Village and it was worth every penny. The room was quiet and very clean. The beach and pool are the best on the island. We dove with Amigos Del Mar dive shop. They were one of the best group of divers I have ever been with. They were friendly and VERY organized. I would highly recommend them. The service provided by Alex with DiscoverBelize.com was wonderful. He recommended places and services on the island based on my needs. He was always available before the trip to answer any questions I had. He was very knowledgeable and professional."

March 26, 07 - "We loved Belize so much the first visit this January '07 we couldn't wait to turn around and go back again for March Break two months later. Thankfully, we didn't have to struggle on our own with bookings and co-ordinating all the details during a very busy travel period. Alex from Discovering Belize took care of everything and, with a great attention to every detail, provided us with a smooth and enjoyable trip we will always remember. Thank you Discovering Belize!"

September 9, 05 - "We had a long weekend for Mexico's Independence Day and decided to take a little family getaway to Belize. We did a lot in just a few days visiting Belize City and San Pedro. The city has a lot of culture and history and San Pedro is just plain cool. We did a sunset cruise and snorkelled at Hol Chan. This trip was an experience I would definitely like to repeat. All of the services we solicited were received. The attention we got from the planning to the final trip, along with all the recommendations, were super."

June 15, 07 - "We had the fortunate experience of being able to work with Alex from Discovering Belize! We went on carnival legend from Tampa on 05/06/07 and had little interest in any of the large group commercialized shore excursions offered for the port stop in Belize. Everyone told me not to go off independently as it wasn’t safe to go on anything other than cruise excursions. I took a chance. I was not going to go to Belize without seeing the reef in an uncrowned environment. All the other snorkel trips I had taken on cruise excursions were to places that were overcrowded with swimmers and no fish. Besides, they never took us very far away from where the cruise ship docked. I emailed Alex and he got right back to me. I was a royal pain with every question in the book. I was worried about it being safe, missing the cruise ship back, taking a little commuter flight, etc...He answered every question. I booked the trip and he emailed me the itinerary and passes. I honestly have to say we had more fun than we have ever had. We took a cab from the port with an ex police officer named Steve(ask for him-he was great!) . He safely got us to Maya Island Air for our little flight to San Pedro, where we debarked and met our captain Russell with Lil' Alphonso's Snorkel Tours. He was awesome! He is a trip and very knowledgeable - like an underwater Indiana Jones! He went and touched fish to get them out of caves and tempted them with food right from his hand. We saw tons of huge nurse sharks, all kinds of fish, and very unusual creatures such as the green moray eel, and tons of huge spotted eagle rays. It was only my husband and I and one other couple. As we got individual attention all day long and then we were safely escorted back to dock where we caught our flight back to Belize City and Steve picked us up again. Our day was nothing short of amazing. Alex from discovering Belize coordinated everything perfectly. Thanks Alex for keeping us safe and letting us really see Belize! You were great!"

May 10 , 07 - "Thanks Alex for arranging a great trip for 11 intrepid whale sharks divers. We found everything to be just as you said it would. We dove with whale sharks and snorkeled on excellent reef systems at the Galdden Spit. Some of our group had a great trip to Xuanantunich as well. Highly recommend Belize and sleepy Placencia."

May 9 , 07 - "Alex provided excellent service. The trip was very well organized and he was very helpful through out the planning process. We had a great time and Dilzon is a great guide. Even though it was windy (could have been in Kansas) Dilzon put us on fish and we caught a lot of nice fish. To me, when the weather was rough is when you need a good agent and fishing guide. Alex made a great choice in selecting Dilzon. All the vouchers worked flawlessly."

"Hi Alex! The trip was OUTSTANDING! Victoria house was top shelf….The private pool made the place. We were so, so on San Padro but the beach was very nice and the service at the hotel was good. Caye Chapel was absolutely perfect. The Villa layout and comfort was very nice… the beach was great….the golf was great….and the service was excellent. We actually got lucky and had the island to ourselves (on other guests) for about 48 hours. Even then there were only 9 other guests at the busiest. We will definitely do that one again. It fit our tastes nicely. Great trip! You definitely earned my trust and we’ll be talking again. Thanks for all you did to ease my mind and make this a great trip!"

April 30, 07 - "Wonderful country, at least on the cayes or islands as Belize City is a hole and dangerous I am told. Caye Chapel was our destination for a few days and it was wonderful and a bargain if you are a golfer. challenging course, great scenery , hardly anyone playing. food was superb. Caye caulker was our base for snorkeling and sailing. laid back, some great restaurants - i would put Don Corleone up against most other Italians outside of Italy, even though no veal available on the island, people are friendly and laid back. no shirt no shoes, no problem or safety issue. Only spent 1 night on san pedro but at a really nice hotel (Sunbreeze)on beach and night life was good there. also very good restaurants, including a sushi bar. san pedro is much bigger than the other two with more to do but depends what you a re looking for as the other 2 are really relaxed. prices are good on all 3 for what you get. Alex Gamero was great once we got to Belize - getting there is either half the fun or a bit of a pain depending on your outlook and mode, but Alex set up everything once we got there and all island transfers went smoothly and great fun. Hotels he selected were great and as advertised. He is trustworthy."

December 7, 07 - "First I like to thank Alex for setting up the Tours in Belize and picking us up at the airport, I had a nice Eco tour and workout at the ATM cave, and our stay at the Trek stop was nice seeing parrots and monkeys in the morning while you are having your morning coffee and we met alot of nice people there, and the ruins at Xunantunich, was awesome wish we got to see more of them. Caye Caulker was nice was the first time snorkling two days in a row, the weather was nice, except for a few rain showers, but it did not get in the way also met some nice people out there and the locals are nice to you, if you have lunch and dinner at the Bamboo seemed to be the place to hang out and figure out your next day, and Thanksgiving dinner was nice cruising around the Island on Ras Creeks boat we had lobster for thanksgiving and also a Tropic Air plane was about to land and it passed about 15ft above the boat, the timing was awesome it made my day as the day was about to end. I would like to go back if I could find someone to travel with and see and do more things out there..........Mike"

"Hi Alex... Well we've been home a couple of days now and are trying to readjust to
the cold snowy weather-YUK! Just wanted to let you know that we had a
fantastic holiday and will definitely be going back to Belize. So many
people we've talked to about our trip are interested in going there too
so I hope I can send some business your way.
The highlight of the trip was our tour to the ATM cave. It was beyond
words!!! We loved every minute of it. We also loved the Five Sisters
Lodge. Our room was great, the scenery was awesome, the staff very friendly and
the food was good. I don't know what the people were talking about when
they said the food was terrible!? We went for breakfast at Blancaneaux
on our way out. What a beautiful place.
Laru Beya was nice, good food and friendly staff. Disappointed with the
beach there as it was full of seaweed and tons of garbage that drifted
ashore in the surf. We've never seen anything like it and we've travelled
extensively in the south. It's too bad that the locals have such a disrespect
for the environment in such a beautiful location. Placencia was okay but
a bit boring. Four days was too long there. We went snorkeling at Laughing
Bird Caye. It was quite good but I think we expected a more spectacular reef.
We did see a ray and lots of barracuda. We went to dinner at the Turtle Inn-
beautiful place. Hiked in the Cockscomb Basin late in the day and saw a
tapir, crocodile and jaguar tracks. Interesting place.
We stopped at the Baboon Sanctuary on our way to the Black Orchid. It
too was an interesting stop. We loved our stay at the Black Orchid. Our
room was very nice, food was very good and reasonably priced. The staff
was very friendly. Parts of the hotel were a bit run down but we still had
a good time-swam in the pool and canoed on the river.
All in all, everything went very well. The Belizeans were very friendly
and it was great to be able to speak to them in English.
On our next trip we want to come for 2 weeks and see Lamanai, Crooked
Tree and Tikal and spend some time on Caye Caulker or Amgergris Caye.
We're definitely interested in coming later in March when we can
snorkel with the whale sharks.
Thank you for your help in putting together the holiday. We'll be in
touch next year when we return...
Laurie"

"Hi Alex...As you know, I was in Costa Rica for 2 weeks prior to heading for Belize. Had a really good time up there. Went on zip line, rode horses down to volcanic mud baths and hot springs, rafting, nature walks etc.
When I arrived in Belize, I walked across the parking lot and picked up my car. The Jimmy has a much higher wheel base than my little car so I had to get used to it. I wanted to get to the Maya Center while it was still light so I didn't do much stopping on the way. I had my map and one from the car dealership so I was in pretty good shape except for the lack of signs for the streets. Overshot the Southern Highway by about 6 miles, but that was OK.
Got to the cabins and checked in and after a rest was kind of "adopted" by the kids. I had kept a book for them and so gave it to them and then was working on some crossword puzzles. They became fascinated and then tried doing some as well. They ended up with the rest of the book.
Had all my meals at the Center. Found the fry jack interesting in that it is just like our Indians' fry bread and the puris of the East Indians. We went to the preserve the next morning. It was quite a walk. The swim in the pool at the base of the waterfall was really refreshing. While we were having lunch, there was a young woman with a dog who was in training to locate jaguars as well a man shooting video of a young woman walking through a large mass of butterflies. Pretty interesting. Went for night hike the same evening and saw a few interesting things. No jaguars, but didn't really expect it even though I would have loved it.
Next morning I headed back to Cave Branch and got checked in. Liked the cabanas or whatever I was in. No lights except in the bathroom. Screened walls on three sides. A hammock and chairs on the porch. Beautiful setting. As I said earlier, most people there were quite a bit younger than I but it was fine. I enjoyed walking around ground and was surprised that the river was dry. With all the rain, I would have thought there would be some! I found the way the meals were handled fun but the food not particularly exciting. The soup was really good but the rest was OK but not particularly exciting. Had it not been as costly, perhaps the quality would have been less of a matter. Frankly, it wasn't bad and not something that would keep me from recommending Caves Branch to anyone else.
The tubing was fun. I had talked water shoes but they were not what they said we should wear so I used the other shoes I had with me. Unfortunately, they tended to be slippery on the smooth rocks. It worked though. It was rather fun having lunch inside the cave. Lots of interesting people to talk to and the staff was very friendly.
When I left Caves Branch, I drove to Cheers for lunch and then on to the Baboon Sanctuary. I was surprised to find that the baboon were actually howler monkeys who had apparently been misnamed by the early European settlers. At any rate, it was fun to walk down and actually see a family up close and personal. A sister and brother came down the tree when called and our guide was feeding a mango to the male and then asked me if I wanted to do so as well. Yes. The other couple with us didn't want to get that close, so I just got to stay longer. I had no idea that the hands were so soft. That had to be a highlight for me.
All in all, the trip was fine and I managed on my own quite well. I found the lack of street signs a little disconcerting but no real problem. If I had been able to stay longer, I would have been more able to move around and dig out things on my own more but time was a factor. I head from many that the diving was excellent and it would have been fun to add some snorkeling to the trip. Oh well, it isn't as if I haven't done it before.
Since I neglected to take a memory stick for my camera with me, I have no pictures unfortunately. I just have to use my memory or hope I can get some from someone or something else later.
I enjoyed myself and thank you for your help in setting everything up. Sincerely, Carol"

March 18 , 08 - "When I looked at finding a vacation destination Belize literally jumped off the map! With so many things to see and do in Belize I was a little worried at picking the right ones...I wanted "the most bang for my buck" so to speak, and DiscoveringBelize.com helped me have an incredible trip! Once I arrived at the airport they were there with a private car waiting to take me to my destination, which cost no more than any other taxi! Alex, from DiscoveringBelize.com, is very knowledgeable about the country and its islands and acted as my personal trip coordinator. He booked my transportation, hotel, and even some of my trips once I was there.
I will admit that I was a little hesitant about everything at first, but after seeing his level of professionalism and attention to detail I'm glad that I choose to make my vacation happen with DiscoveringBelize.com!"

March 23, 08 - "We did have a really good time. I really enjoyed Hidden Valley and the remoteness of it. It was very different than anything I've done. We loved the private waterfall day. It was great. We wished we had a little more time at the beach. I appreciate all the time you spent with me planning the trip and your very personalized service. It was great. The only thing we were not prepared for is the very long drive to Hidden Valley an then to the ATM tour. It was like 2 hours each way. Also, I would tell you clients that the ATM cave is pretty physically challenged. No one expected it to be what it was. I loved it, but if I were older or in worse shape, I may have felt differently. Thanks for everything."

March 25 , 08 - "Alex: My wife, daughter and I had a great trip to Belize. WE stayed at Lara Beyu and it was everyting you promised. The village of Placentia was laid back just enough, but there were enough bars and restuarants to make it great. The people were freindly and there there were NO panhadlers or people begging or trying to sell you something. We went on the jaguar jungle trip and had a great guide, we floated down the river throu the jungle and did the waterfall slides as well. We visited monkey jungle and saw manatees. We went out to the laughing caye for some snorkling and had a great time. I think the snorkeling was my wifes favorite. If you ever need references give me a call."

"Alex -
Sarah and I are home now and I wanted to let you know that aside from the foul weather the trip went great. We commented to each other several times during the trip as to how all the details were handled perfectly. We were greeted at the Belize City Airport and taken to the water taxi with our tickets in hand. Upon arriving at the dock in San Pedro there was a man waiting to take us to the Palms. We were greeted by the staff at the Palms and our room was beautiful and better than agreed.
Abby the fishing guide was on time on Friday and the experience with him was very good. He was very good to place us in position to see and catch a lot of Bonefish. Our flight out of San Pedro was uneventful which is always a good thing and our return trip to the Carolinas went off without a hitch.
Thanks again Alex and I do think we will return to Belize in the future. In the event that we do return you will be one of the first to know...
Again many thanks.
Your friend, Conley"
